MORSE MONDAYS
Morse Monday is the Museum's primary training program for its docent corps, although it is open to any member interested in knowing more about art history in general and the Museum's collection in particular. The informative meetings are held at 9:45 a.m. in the McKean Pavilion in the fall, winter and spring, on the last Monday of the month. They include coffee and refreshments.

  • Monday, September 24:  Kick-off coffee, season preview, and docent walk-through of Orientalism – An Eye for the ExoticDonna Climenhage, Curator, and Betsy Peters, Curator of Education.
  • Monday, October 29:  Docent training for The Quest of BeautyLouis Comfort Tiffany's Life and Art. Dr. Laurence J. Ruggiero, Museum Director.
  • Monday, November 26:  The Tiffany Chronology:  Its Philosophy and Accessibility. Catherine Hinman, Director of Public Affairs and Publications and Jennifer Thalheimer, Collection Manager. Jennifer will give a tour of the Museum immediately following the program.
  • Monday, January 28: The Tiffany Chronology:  Historical, Economic, and Political Context for Tiffany.  Donna Climenhage, Curator.
  •  Monday, February 25: The Tiffany Chronology: Using Biography as the Basis for an Exhibition.  Dr. Laurence J. Ruggiero, Museum Director.
  • Monday, April 14:  The Tiffany Chronology:  Art Historical Context for Tiffany.  Betsy Peters, Curator of Education.

MORSE MONDAY ART TRIPS


To provide the volunteer corps with new perspectives on the Morse collections, the Museum plans one or more art field trips during the season. Two special art trips have been planned for Morse Museum volunteers this year. These trips have a limited capacity and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please contact Danny Blaydes at (407) 851-3079.

  • Tuesday, October 16, 2007: Preston Studios, commercial stained-glass studio, Melbourne, Florida.
  • Tuesday, March 4, 2008: Orlando Museum of Art special exhibition American Chronicles — The Art of Norman Rockwell; and City Arts Factory, Orlando.

DOCENT TRAINING

Special Exhibition Training

The following dates have been set aside for special exhibition docent training this season.  Both programs will be held in the McKean Pavilion at 9:45 a.m.

  • Monday, October 29: Docent training for The Quest of Beauty — Louis Comfort Tiffany's Life and Art.
  • Monday, March 26: Docent training for the new installation of Tiffany jewelry, enamels, and metalworks gallery.

Docent Trainee and Mentor Meetings

Docent trainees and their mentors should set aside the following dates to meet.  These meetings immediately follow the Morse Monday program scheduled for that day:

  • Monday, October 29
  • Monday January 28
  • Monday, April 14

 

FAMILY PROGRAM TRAINING

The Morse is always looking for docents who are interested in helping with our family programs. This year we are offering family tours during several Friday Nights at the Morse and then again on Tuesdays and Fridays during June and July.  If you are interested in any of these opportunities or need more information, please call the Education Department at the Morse. 

Docents who are confirmed to help with the Museum's Family Programs should take note of the following dates:

  • Monday, October 22 – Docent training for Friday Night at the Morse Family Tours.  Betsy Peters, Curator of Education.
  • Monday, June 2 – Docent training for Summer Family Programs.  Betsy Peters, Curator of Education.
