A Church Record—Photographs from the
Tiffany Studios

The Morse Museum has recently completed an extensive multi-year conservation effort to stabilize the prints and glass-plate negatives in our Tiffany Studios Study Photograph Collection and produce exhibit-quality images from them. Among these archival images are a unique series of photographs that document important commissions and product offerings from Tiffany Studios' Ecclesiastical Department.

MORSE VIGNETTE
The Japan Craze and Western Art 1880–1920
October 20, 2009 through August 8, 2010
This new Morse vignette features a number of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, John La Farge, Rookwood, and others that reflect the transforming influence of Japan on late 19th- and early 20th-century Western art. Morse Museum vignettes—a tradition established by Jeannette Genius McKean, the Museum’s founder—are themed interior scenes developed from objects in the collection.

Selected Works of Louis Comfort Tiffany from

The first three galleries at the Morse have been installed with more than a hundred objects representing the remarkable diversity of work by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Virtues of Simplicity—American Arts and Crafts from the Morse Collection

The Museum’s exhibition of American Arts and Crafts furnishings and decorative art—which opened February 17, 2009—illustrates the origins of the movement in Great Britain and shows, through a selection of examples from the Morse collection, how the Arts and Crafts movement manifested itself in the United States, especially in the Northeast and Midwest.

Reinstalled in March 2008, this permanent gallery features about three dozen objects, including 11 pieces of jewelry that Tiffany designed for the new art jewelry division he established at Tiffany & Co. after his father died in 1905.

American Paintings from the Morse Collection

Exhibits in the Museum’s galleries are changed periodically to enable the public to see more of the permanent collection.This fall, the Morse refreshed its gallery of 19th- and 20th-century American paintings with works representing a broader span of time, about 1850 through the 1920s, and a greater variety of styles. The additional selections include paintings by Maxfield Parrish, Daniel Garber, Arthur B. Davies, and others.
Secrets of Tiffany Glassmaking
Ongoing
Through photographs, models, tools, and art objects, this teaching exhibit shows the range of Louis C. Tiffany’s glass production, from mosaics and molded-glass jewels to leaded-glass windows and lamps, providing insights into the techniques employed by his artisans.
